Apprentice Journey - Week 2

Welcome back to the second week of my blog where I will be giving you an insight into my working life over the past week. I am still settling into my new position here and getting used work in general after a long period off due to Covid-19, however I am very pleased to be back working to further my career. In the past week I have learned a lot, I spent some time shadowing my manager Wes to help get to grips with some of the processes throughout the company, this was great because it gave me an understanding of what is happening with each task instead of just clicking aimlessly.

Some of the parts I learnt about were;

  • The steps required to ensure payroll is correct and complete, ready for clients.
  • Helping populate a new software with our client's data that will assist with the running of the business.
  • Invoicing customers for a client using a software called Staffplan and much more.

Throughout this period, I have also taken what I learnt in the first week and have been able to work more independently on those tasks without needing as much help from Wes. The progress in learning about accounting has been great however I also had the chance to see how the business runs and the essentials of helping a business grow. Overall, I am really enjoying it so far and hope to continue developing at the same pace.

I also had my second day at college which I am really enjoying. I am beginning to get to grips with my first unit 'Advanced Bookkeeping' however I have already got an exam date set for the end of November. I am slightly nervous about this but am determined to put the work in to ensure I get the best possible result, setting me up nicely for the rest of the year.
